    Tyler Baum

My name is Tyler Baum, and I am the founder of Shining & Supported. My journey into this work is both personal and professional. As a student, I went through the IEP process myself, navigating school with a visual impairment and a learning disability. Because of this, I understand firsthand what it feels like to be in the system, not just from an educational standpoint, but from a personal one. That experience shaped my passion for helping others.

I went on to attend Arizona State University, where I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Special Education with a focus in Visual Impairment, along with a certification in General Special Education. Through my education and training, I developed a strong foundation in how to support students with diverse learning needs in meaningful and practical ways.

In addition to my work in special education, I have also earned a certification in Sports Coaching from Michigan State University. This has strengthened my ability to mentor, guide, and support students not just academically, but in building confidence, discipline, and life skills.

Currently, I work as a paraprofessional in a school setting and serve as a basketball coach. These roles allow me to work directly with students every day, supporting their growth both inside and outside of the classroom.

    My Perspective

I have experienced this journey from multiple angles:

    • As a student navigating the IEP process
    • As an educator supporting students in schools
    • As a coach helping students grow beyond the classroom

This perspective allows me to connect with families, students, and educators in a real and meaningful way.

    My Mission

Through Shining & Supported, my goal is to help others feel:

    • Clear in their understanding
    • Confident in their decisions
    • Supported every step of the way

Because this is about more than just school plans.

It’s about helping students succeed in school, and in life.
